1851-52, 3¢ brownish carmine (11), vertical block of six, large margins to cutting, pen cancllled, on 1856 folded letter to Pa. with ms. "Keswick Octo 31st" pmk., fascinating Va. contents written to a friend and autograph collector with a list of ten addition al letters or documents that were included (thus explaining the six times rate), the last being a copy of a letter from Thomas Nelson Jr. to Col. John Walker: "The undaunted tone of this letter is worthy of note as our state was then overrun by the British- but He was one main instrument in turning the tide against them, & in taking Cornwallis prisoner in his own house at Yorktown."; Fine, a rare and desirable item for the Virginia postal historian. The wife of the writer, Thos. Meriwether, was the granddaughter of Thos. Nelson Jr.
