1852, 3¢ dull red (11), vertical pair, clear to large margins except barely in at B., well tied by "Carlisle Pa. Nov. 18" c.d.s. and placed over red "Carlisle Pa. 3 Paid Nov. 18" c.d.s. on cover to San Francisco, presumably postmarked before the Californi a address was noted and the proper postage subsequently affixed, uncommon ms. docketing "Rec'd for `Golden Age' Dec. 14, 1854 4 P.M." Carried on the S.S. North Star (U.S. Mail S.S. Co.) to Aspinwall where it connected with theGolden Age (Pacific Mail S.S. Co.); trivial toning at top edge center, Fine and interesting usage.
