1851, 1¢ blue, type II (7), large to huge margins, cutting at B., tied by manuscript. "X" on ca. 1861 Flag patriotic to Greencastle, Ind., probably a drop usage, manuscript. "E. Plurebus De U" on flap; cover skillfully cleaned and repaired, Fine appearance, a very rare usage. In the first half of 1861, rumors of demonetization and a change in printers with the new Republican administration, may have inspired the using U.P.S.S. # of older stamps; a strip of 3 of #9 on an 1861 soldier's letter is known, in addition to one or two #11s on patriotics. The use of this Type II is probably unique. Estimate 500 - 750
