1867, 2¢ black, F. grill (93), well centered, used with 3¢ green (147) and 10¢ brown (150), tied by blue targets and Cherbourg transit on 1872 yellow cover to France, blue "Spanish Ranch Cal. May 13" c.d.s. at left, red New York transit, twice struck "5" decimes due handstamp, no backstamps, cover with small tear at top from opening (also affecting 2¢ which has a minute tear at top left), Very Fine usage, gorgeous appearance. This paid the old 15¢ French mail rate which expired Dec. 31, 1869, and was overpaid by 5¢.
