Adams, Samuel (1722-1803), Revolutionary, organized opposition to stamp Act that led to Boston Tea Party 1773, Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Massachusetts Governor 1794-97. 17½ x 11 partly-printed DS as Governor, Boston, Feb. 23, 1795, with full "Samuel Adams" signature under seal remnant at top left, appointment of Jonathan Grout of Petersham as Justice of the Peace in Worcester County. Signed also by Secretary John Avery, Jr. Few small tears at bottom edge.
