Franklin, Benjamin (1706-1790), Scientist, diplomat, philosopher, inventor, drafter and Signer of the Declaration of Independence, Framer of the U.S. Constitution. 27 x 10 vellum DS as President of the Supreme Executive Council of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, Oct. 25, 1786. Certificate of adjudication of bankruptcy commission, signed at lower right, also by Commissioners Edward Shippen, Penna. jurist, father-in-law of Benedict Arnold, Mathew Clarkson (aide-de-camp to Gens. Gates and Arnold in Revolution), Matthew Mease (commanded quarter-deck guns of ship Bon Homme Richard until he was wounded in John Paul Jones' battle against British ship Serapis), George Hughes and Peter Boynton. All with red wax seals next to their signatures, paper seal of Pennsylvania at left. Document is laid into recessed mat board with a steel engraving of Franklin and beautifully framed to 42 x 17, a wonderful presentation of one of America's most desirable and highly sought-after signatures.
