Hancock, John (1737-1793), President of the Continental Congress 1775-77, 1st Signer of the declaration of Independence, 1st Governor of Massachusetts 1780-85, 1787-93. 7½ x 4½ ALS signed as "Service Partner", Boston, Oct. 12, 1764, to Matthew Woodford, Southampton, requests payment of £1,000 in 30 days to Barnard & Harrison, London merchants for a victualling contract in Nova Scotia. Gouge at right side affects few words, sewn to similar color piece at left side. Excellent example of the most famous signature in America.
