Earhart, Amelia (1897-1937?), Famed aviatrix, first woman to fly across the Atlantic, lost on 1937 transpacific flight. 3 ¾ x 6 ½ U.S. airmail envelope postmarked Detroit, Mich., May 14, 1929 with stamped cachet commemorating first amphibian flight over Lake Erie, Cleveland-Detroit on that day, signed by Earhart as pilot and Ralph R. DeFore, co-pilot. Legend "Amelia Earhart, Special Pilot" at lower left, type addressed.
