(1794-1858), U.S. Navy officer, served on African coast suppressing slave trade, in Mexican War led naval siege of Veracruz, commanded squadron sent to "open up" Japan 1854. 12¼ x 8 MsDS as commander of Home Squadron Flag Ship Mississippi, place unknown, April 9, 1847, orders purser to pay $24 to a Juan Diaz for vegetables furnished the crew of this vessel.
