1870, 24¢ purple (U99), size 21 entire sent registered from Galveston, Tex. to England via New York, Galveston c.d.s. Oct 15 (1879), backstamped N.Y. Oct 20 & 21 with Oct 30 Liverpool Registered oval on front and back, opened a bit roughly at B, F-VF, shadow at lower left indicates that a block of four 1869 stamps has been removed, British blue crayon cross ends abruptly at the shadow and a matching "4" on reverse may indicate a 4x rate, meaning it was probably a block of 2¢ #113, overpaying the rate by 2¢ (UPSS #239, $350).
