Canada, 1873-88, 3¢ orange red and 3¢ bright vermilion (37c, 41), Hechler private Service overprints, two different types. Fine. Henry Hechler was a Captain in the militia who helped put down the Indian-Metis rebellion in the Northwest Provinces in 1885. He overprinted stamps and stationery for use by the military in hopes that it would receive special handling. The overprint was unauthorized but tolerated by the post office.
