2¢ Brown (113), tied in combination with single 3¢ ultramarine (#114) and five copies 1870 issue 10¢ brown (#150, strip of three and pair) to 1874 cover from Cuba, via United States, to Spain, Cuban commission merchants advertising imprint on flap, a combination franking with Cuba, two copies 50¢ gray (#61) tied to reverse by mute cancels, "Admin Gral Correos Habana 3 Oct 74" double circle postmark, entered the United States mails red "New York Oct 8" exchange datestamp and four strikes of New York Foreign Mails fancy cancel, London Paid transit and "PD" handstamp, apparently prepaid for a weight between on half and two thirds ounce so it could be sent onward from New York City by the first available steamer no matter what mail contract was in effect, 20¢ of postage covered the Cuba to United States portion, cover opened out for display and restored edge. An Extremely Fine combination and a world class rarity.

THE UNITED STATES STAMPS WERE APPLIED IN CUBA BY AN AGENT IN 1874. AS THE 10¢ STAMPS WERE THE MOST FREQUENTLY USED TO PAY 10¢ RATE TO UNITED STATES, IT MAKES SENSE THAT HE WOULD HAVE SUPPLY OF CURRENT 10¢ STAMPS AND STILL BE USING OTHER DENOMINATIONS FROM PREVIOUS ISSUE.
