1847, 5¢ red brown (1), large to huge margins, wonderful bright color and clear impression from the reworked plate, near orange brown in intensity, tied by red grid, matching "U.S. Express Mail N. York N.Y. Jul. 23" c.d.s., on 1850 folded letter to Switzerland "p. Hibernia" contents in French, usual oily red "Colonies &c. Art. 13" accountancy handstamp, red orange Calais postmark and red manuscript "36" due, Very Fine, a beautiful and very rare usage. Illustrated in Alexander, p. 949.
