Rommel, Erwin (1891-1944)., German Field Marshall, legendary Panzer commander in North Africa, the "Desert Fox", forced to commit suicide after being implicated in the plot to assassinate Hitler.
TLS in German (with English translation) on Africa Corps stationery, 9" x 11¼", Battle Station, 1941 May 24. Letter authorizing the transfer of one Georg Kuest, a workman, to the Afrikakorps after completion of basic training in the Wehrmacht, folded in eighths, splitting reinforced by hinges. Estimate 2,000 - 2,500
Rommel's letters are particularly rare because most of his papers were destroyed following his implication in the Hitler assassination plot.
