Berthier, Alexandre (1753-1815)., French marshal and prince of Neufchatel and Wagram.
ALS in French, 7¾" x 6", no place or date. Letter to a Monsieur Elhard (?) in Paris, in which he requests a face to face meeting, Fine. Includes biography in French. Estimate 200 - 300
After acting as an aide to General Rochambeau and accompanying the army in 1781 on its march to Yorktown, Berthier was instrumental in the coup d'état of the 18th Brumaire (1799) which established the Consulate, and received the post of Minister of War; considered Napoleon's shadow and the most irreplaceable of all his marshals, he served in the Peninsular Campaign (1808), the Austrian Campaign (1809), in Russia (1812), Germany (1813), and France (1814).
