St. Louis, Mo., 1845, 5¢ black on greenish (11X1), type I, position 1, mostly large margins, ample at left, bright color, small pre-print paper fold at left, cancelled by pen strokes and tied by bold red "Paid" handstamp on 1845 folded letter to William Pettus in St. Charles, red "St. Louis Mo. Dec. 21" c.d.s. at left, large manuscript "5" with tiny "pd"; some soiling along file fold, still Very Fine and rare tied by the "Paid" handstamp.
