THE ONLY RECORDED ST. LOUIS BEAR COVER TO LOUISIANA.

Even with the close commercial ties between St. Louis and New Orleans, the fast line of steamers being run between Louisville, Ky. and St. Louis made it easier for a St. Louis merchant to send any communications for New Orleans through Louisville correspondents, who were actually in closer communication with New Orleans by river. In this period, Missouri letters sent directly to New Orleans were the exception.
