1858, 5¢ Indian red, type I (28A), all but perfectly centered with deep distinctive color and clear New Orleans town cancel. Fresh and Extremely Fine.
Scott $3,000

THE PERFORATIONS ON THE 1857 5¢ TYPE I'S, SCOTT #27-29, ARE RARELY CLEAR OF THE DESIGN AT BOTH THE TOP AND THE BOTTOM [IN FACT, THAT IS THE REASON THE TOP AND BOTTOM OF THE DESIGN WERE EVENTUALLY BURNISHED OUT GIVING US TYPE II]. THIS EXAMPLE IS BARELY TOUCHING AT THE TOP AND, BEING THE SCARCE INDIAN RED SHADE, IT IS REALLY A CONDITION RARITY.

Expertization: 1985 and 2002 P.F. Certificates.

Realized $4,750
