Estimate 750 - 1,000

Provenance: Winter

With the opening of Nebraska Territory came intense land speculation and promotion of settlement in the region. An offshoot of this promotion was a number of locally produced map envelopes- ephemeral but eye-catching, and intended to be seen by friends and family back home. Their most distinctive feature was the location of four different railroads entering the territory, none of which existed, except in the minds of businessmen like William Byers.
