Cowlitz W.T./ Sepr. 21st. 56, two line manuscript postmark on 1856 folded letter to Roxbury, Mass. with 10¢ green type II (14), ample margins, matching pen cancel, contents written "in a house of mourning" announce the death of a little boy; lettersheet with some scattered gum toning around stamp, Fine and rare. Estimate 500 - 750

Established on Apr. 29, 1854, the town was located a mile south of present Toledo at a landing on a branch of the Cowlitz River, and was more frequently referred to as "Cowlitz Landing."
