Lot 256

Prince Edward Island 1870, 4½d yellow brown (10), tied by "Charlottetown P.E.I./28 Sep 1871" star duplex on pink envelope to Shepton Mallett, England (Oct. 15) "via New York", carried on the Guion Line packet "Wyoming" which left New York on Oct. 4 and arrived in Queenston Oct. 14 and therefore underpaid 1d stg. for traveling through New York, but not charged, the stamp has perforation defects and small tear because of its application just over the edge of the cover which is lightly age spotted and missing part of the flap, a pleasing example of this rare use of which nine covers are recorded and this is the only one with the star cancellation. SG 32.
