Pullen, Virgil & Co's New York, Montreal & Quebec Express, orange label, on folded letter datelined Montreal August 6, 1845 to New York with large red "New York Aug 12, 2 cts" handstamp, light "city Despatch Post NY" handstamp in red, manuscript "With a Box of Glass, care of Virgil & Co's Express"; two light file folds, Very Fine.

The cross-border express service between Montreal and New York was handled by Pullen, Virgil & Co's Express. This service operated by the Champlain and St. Lawrence Railway to Rouse's Point, steamboat on Lake Champlain, stage between Whitehall and Troy, and steamboat on the Hudson river to New York. The letter was put in the U.S. Despatch Post and rated 2 cents for local delivery

Enclosed printed invoice for three dozen cut wine glasses. Red manuscript note, "In a box, addressed Harry Jessop, 91 John Street, NY, Care Virgil & Co's Express, Duty & Carriage paid".
