An intriguing usage. The docketing establishes this as a post-demonetization usage. It appears as though this was first treated as unpaid, then the "Paid" was added and the stamp canceled. The problem is that in June 1852 the stamp would have been canceled by a large "Paid" in black, not a 7-bar grid. All the markings on this cover were in use in June 1851. It is more likely that the docketing, while genuine, was applied a year or two later rather than upon receipt - the addressee, or his secretary, misdated it. Further research, however, may prove this hypothesis wrong.
