1851-52, 3¢ brownish carmine (11), two singles, margins to slightly in, tied by large Boston "Paid" in grid and boxed "G B/ 1F60c" on March 1857 lilac envelope to Paris, France, bold "8" (decimes due) handstamp and Calais postmark, "Boston Br. Pkt. 11 Mar" exchange c.d.s. and red Liverpool transit, 24 Mar, on reverse, Fine and scarce "three-month period" usage.

This was an overpayment by 1¢ of the 5¢ U.S. inland postage. During "the 3-month period", from January 1 until April 1, 1857, a single-rate letter could be sent from the U.S. to France by British packet for 10¢ less than by American packet. This letter was carried on the Cunard steamer Niagara, which left Boston on March 11 and arrived in Liverpool on March 24.
