1855, 10¢ green, type II (14), two horizontal pairs, position 9-10R and 57-58L, full to large margins, left pair creased prior to use, with two copies of 3¢ dull red (11), tied together by pen strokes on ca. 1856 cover to Havre, France, additional pair of 1¢ blue type IV (9) tied by blue "Wiscassett Me. Jan. 9" c.d.s., red "New York Am. Pkt. Jan. 12" exchange postmark, manuscript instruction "Per Steamer Arago via New York, Southampton & Havre", faint red French c.d.s. ties left 10¢ pair and bold manuscript "4" collect (there is also a smaller manuscript "30" on back); flap faults and small tear at top, still Fine, an intriguing and colorful franking. This appears to have been incorrectly franked at double the old American Packet rate of 24¢ which had been lowered to 20¢ as of Jan 1, 1851.
