Postage Due, 1879, 2¢ brown (J2), tied by pen cancel on legal size cover with large illustrated corner card of the Governor of Illinois featuring a beautiful engraving of the state seal, franked with a 2¢ red brown (210) tied by Springfield, Ill. c.d.s., June 1, 1885, handstamped "DUE 2" and blue crayon "Cragin" (?), Very Fine. Estimate 200 - 300
Sent from Illinois governor, Richard J. Oglesby, a former Civil War General to New York governor, David B. Hill, the lieutenant governor of Grover Cleveland. He assume office in January of 1885 when Cleveland resigned to become President.
