EXTREMELY RARE EARLY FORWARDER COVER FROM MAZATLAN TO CANTON, CHINA VIA THE SANDWICH ISLANDS AND HONG KONG.

G.W.P. Bissell begins the letter, "The U.S. brig 'Perry' leaves today for the Sandwich Islands and I embrace the chance to write a few lines with the hope that some vessel may be going to China from the Islands." The writer also mentions that the 'Perry' has just completed a short passage of 64 days.
Brewer & Co. of Honolulu found passage for the letter to Hong Kong where the letter was handled by Bush & Co. to Canton, China. Later in 1850, Bush & Co. would open an office in Lahaina, Sandwich Islands.
