The packet rate to the British West Indies via Bermuda was 8 pence sterling or 10 pence currency. As in this case, 10 pence currency was often confused as 10 pence sterling (1 shilling, ½ pence). Argenti reports that rates to the British West Indies must be prepaid and the cover originally rated "10" (sterling in error) but was franked with the 1 shilling in proper prepayment of the rate.
