1879, 5¢ blue (185), single cancelled and tied by two strikes of "PM/ London/ 22 De/ 82" c.d.s. on cover with printed address to England, readdressed with label to Seville, Spain, reverse with red London postmark. and purple Brown, Shipley oval, indistinct Spanish marking, tiny Dec. 27th receiving note at lower left; stamp with small tear at top, Very Fine appearance, a remarkable usage. Devoid of U.S. postmarks, without sailing instructions and the stamp uncancelled, it is likely this cover was prepared for mailing in the states, but then carried privately and handed over to Brown, Shipley, who placed it in the British mail system, which treated the cover as fully paid.
