1873, 7¢ orange vermilion, 3¢ rose (65) tied by target cancel on cover postmarked Lynn, Mass. Aug 26 (1865), addressed "Capt. Algernon Draper, 2dBrig. 3d Div. 25th A.C., 36th U.S.C. Troops, Brazos Santiago, Texas"; corner torn in opening, Fine. The 36th U.S. Colored Troop was part of the 25th Army Corps, an all-colored corps. Draper, who served under is brother Alonzo, a General, was mustered into the 36th as a Lieutenant in March, 1864 and promoted to Captain in February 1865. The 25th Corps was stationed along the Rio Grande in May 1865, as part of a buildup against French forces in Mexico. Alonzo was killed at Brazos Santiago on Sept 3, 1965. The 25th Corps was disbanded in January, 1866.
