Kniffler & Co. dated handstamp corner card on cover bearing 6¢ carmine (148) single and pair tied by Hiogo quartered corks to London, endorsed "Via San Francisco", "Yokohama Japan Oct 23" c.d.s., carried by P.M.S.S. Japan leaving Yokohama Oct 24, 1871 and arriving into San Francisco on Nov. 15, red "New York Nov 25" c.d.s.; stamps faulty and cover restoration that includes two flaps replaced, Very Fine usage, 2¢ overpayment of the 16¢ rate to England (10¢ to U.S. and 6¢ to England).
