Houston Texas Jan 8, c.d.s. in red, matching "5" struck below Houston, and manuscript date between two lines across circle, folded letter was addressed to Sam Houston in "Washington City" (D.C.), missent to Washington, Tex. where postmarked in manuscript on Jan 12, 1847 and "missent / 5 ford" added, "5" in c.d.s. was crossed out for the 10¢ rate to Washington, D. C.; two vertical file folds, cover fault in address, Fine. Letter requested reimbursement from the War Department for services of the Frontone Guards for having built fortifications at Point Isabel.
