1863 (May 1) Stockton, Cal. to Locarno, Switzerland, double-circle datestamp with matching four-ring cancellation tying 30¢ orange (71) along with 1¢ blue, 3¢ rose pink (63 two, 64b) on red and blue patriotic envelope (L-2330 var.), red "N. York Am. Pkt. Paid May 26" transit c.d.s., magenta "12" credit crossed out in red crayon and re-rated "6", red boxed Aachen Franco Jun. 9 transit, blue crayon "fr. 2" rating; bottom 1¢ with couple trivial perforation faults from edge placement, some toned perfs, Very Fine and colorful usage; franked at the old 35¢ Prussian closed mail rate that was reduced to 33¢ on May 1, 1863, therefore this is a 2¢ overpayment of the new 33¢ Prussian closed mail rate.
