Rockland County N.Y. to Albany N.Y. via New York City, folded cover with year docketing and partial letter in Philip Schuyler's hand, bearing manuscript "5d/8gr" rating and additional "2/8", received in New York with manuscript "N York" postmark and matching "Way 10-", Very Fine, double the 2 dwt 16gr rate for 100-200 miles from New York to Albany, rated 2 shillings 8 pence in local currency with the way fee paid in cash.

Philip Schuyler was appointed one of the four Major Generals of the Continental army by the Continental Congress in June 1775. He served until he was replaced in 1777 and finally resigned his commission in April 1779. In 1780, he was selected to the New York State Senate, and later appointed as one of the first two United States Senators for New York in 1788.
