1899 (5 Aug.) "Kommando S.M.S. ‘Gefion’ F. No. 1743", envelope (215 x 142mm, matching paper seal on reverse) to the Cruiser "Kaiserin Augusta", care of the German Consulate in Hakodate, Japan, bearing 2m brown purple and "China" diagonal overprint 25pf yellow orange (Michel 37e, V5I) with interpane margin, cancelled by "Tsintau/Kiautschou" c.d.s., the 25pf has small faults, Very Fine and outstanding franking of the utmost rarity.

According to our records, there are only two covers known from Kiautschou with the 2 mark stamp. The other cover is a single franking dated 14 July 1898 and registered to Germany.
