U.S. 30¢ orange (71), applied with 1¢ blue (63) over red crayon "31" and portion of c.d.s. on cover from Honolulu, Hawaii to Copenhagen, Denmark, red "Honolulu U.S. Postage Paid" origin c.d.s., stamps cancelled upon arrival in San Francisco by cogwheel cancellations, matching "San Francisco Jan 4" double-circle datestamp, endorsed "Comet", red circled "10" credit handstamp, partial red "N.York Am. Pkt." transit c.d.s., blue "Aachen Franco" Feb. 14 datestamp and "WFR 1¼" backstamp, partial Danish backstamp; 1¢ with small piece out, fresh and colorful, a Very Fine usage; the U.S. postage pays the 31¢ Prussian closed mail rate.

1. May 18, 1865 to Saxony, Germany with single 30¢ paying the 28¢ Prussian closed mail rate plus 2¢ ship fee, Ex-Brigham, Jessup, Haas, Paliafito, Martin (sold recently at auction for $45,000).
2. Dec. 15, 1865 to Copenhagen, Denmark with 30¢ and 1¢ paying the 31¢ Prussian closed mail rate, Ex-Tows, Aall, and DuPuy (the cover offered here).
3. Sep. 25, 1867 to Messr. Macondray & Co. in San Francisco with single 30¢ paying triple 10¢ steamship rate, Ex-Honolulu Advertiser.
