1853, 5¢ blue, thick white paper (5), single with ample margins to clear, used with U.S. 12¢ black diagonal bisect (17a), upper left half, ample margins, both tied by segmented cork cancellation (M-H 6) on cover front to Albany, N.Y., red "Honolulu * Hawaiian Islands * JLY 3" origin c.d.s., entered U.S. mails with "San Francisco 2 Aug" with matching "12" rate handstamp and magenta "Ship", portion of contents remains on reverse along with docketing "dated Honolulu, June 25, 1853", Fine.

UNIQUE MIXED FRANKING AND ONE OF ONLY TWO RECORDED 12¢ BISECTS FROM HAWAII, THE OTHER BEING ON A SMALL PIECE. THIS IS ALSO THE EARLIEST RECORDED USE OF THE 5¢ "BOSTON ENGRAVED".
