1856 (Aug. 16) New Orleans La. to Bordeaux, France via New York forwarder, folded letter with dateline, bearing 5¢ red brown (12) large margins to close at bottom, part of adjacent stamp at right, tied by black grid cancellation leaving portrait clear, red "Forwarded by John Derand & Co. New York" forwarder's oval, entered the mails with red "New-York Br. Pkt. Aug 26" exchange office c.d.s., transferred to Boston for the Cunard Line steamer Canada, which departed on August 27 and arrived at Liverpool on September 7, red Liverpool "8 SP 1856" transit backstamp, "Etats-Unis. Paq. Brit. A. Calais 8 Sept. 56" entry c.d.s. with matching "13" (décimes) due handstamp, French backstamps including "Bordeaux 10 Sept. 56" arrival c.d.s.; 5¢ stamp lifted and replaced, small corner crease and ink mark, light overall toning and age spots, Fine.
