1857 (Aug. 12) New Orleans, La. to Port Vendres, France, blue folded cover bearing 5¢ red brown (12) two horizontal strips of three, bright rich color, ample to large margins all around, tied by three strikes of "New Orleans La. Aug 12" c.d.s., red "New-York 'Paid 24' Aug 19" exchange office c.d.s., carried on the Cunard Line steamer Persia, which departed New York on August 19 and arrived at Liverpool on August 29, red French "Et. Unis Serv. Br. A. C. 31 Aout 57" entry c.d.s., reverse with various French transits and "Port-Vendres 3 Sept. 57" arrival c.d.s., one stamp with tiny tear, right stamp with corner crease in margin, file fold and edge neatly reinforced, Extremely Fine, double the 15¢ treaty rate per ¼ ounce carried by British packet.
