AN EXCEEDINGLY RARE MINT EXAMPLE OF THE 5¢ 1856.

Expertization: 2005 P.F. Certificate.

It is estimated that fewer than 50 examples of the 600,000 ordered survived in unused condition. Most of the surviving examples have faults and/or none of the original gum. Additionally, seven examples are tied up in the blocks of four and three (see lots 111 and 112). The mint single offered here is one of the finest of this very tiny population.
