1873 (5/17 May) envelope from St. Petersburg (with original enclosure datelined "Winter Palace") to Capetown, C.G.H. (21.7), bearing six 1866 10k cancelled St. Petersburg c.d.s., red Eydkuhnen-Bomberg "Aus Russland Franco" c.d.s. (19.5), boxed "P.P.", "London/Paid" transit c.d.s. (21.5) and black Cape Town receiver, backstamped St. Petersburg c.d.s. (5/17.5) in red for foreign mail, multiple manuscript rates; large opening tear at top, Fine. Rates were 16k to England, "1/-" ship post to Capetown and 1(d.) for local C.G.H. delivery with "6¾" (Sgr.) credit to Prussia.

The writer N. Schilling, an adviser to the Grand Duke Alexis, states that "His Highness has just begun his voyage from the east shore of Asia by land, and will not arrive here before the month of July".
