1914-15 Heinecke correspondence, comprising 27 envelopes (one franked and eleven endorsed "Feldpostbrief") and 11 telegrams (accompanying the envelopes from the period he was captured) from Ernst Heinecke, a member of a 150 strong mixed race unit, to his wife in Rehoboth or Windhoek, showing the unit's movements, commencing with 1914 (13 Aug.) envelope from Heinecke as a member of the National Police in Rehoboth (the mixed race unit was formed there on 8 August), then following the movements to Kraiport, Onanis, Jakalswater, Karibib (field hospital) and finally Fahlgras bz. Windhuk, all with sender's endorsements containing unit and location, then 1915 (15-16 July) envelopes (2, one South African printed telegram envelope with printed formular telegram showing "S.A. Field Telegraph and Postal Corps" c.d.s.) from the police jail in Korab following his being taken prisoner by the Union troops, 1915 (29 July-19 Sept.) censored envelopes (9, all with telegrams) from Aus to Windhoek showing use of different cancellers commencing with Keetmanshoop c.d.s., framed "Aus" date stamp in blue, "Aus/S.W. Africa" double-ring date stamp, and unframed "Prisoner of War/Free of Charge/Aus/Passed by Censor" handstamp in violet, and finally 2 P.O.W. covers to his wife in Windhoek marked unknown/unclaimed, Very Fine and unique documentation of one man's story from a postal history aspect.
