1793 (Nov. 25) Fort Washington, endorsement on folded letter addressed to the accountant of the Department of War at Philadelphia, manuscript "20" rating, letter reads "Address all the money you may send out to care of Capt Jno Peirce commanding Fort Washington. He has also control of the relays of expresses from here to headquarters 80 miles advanced"; fold tape reinforcement, tape stain mostly on flap, Fine.

This letter was sent two years prior to the opening of the Cincinnati post office and shortly after the first settlers arrived in 1789. It was probably carried by military courier until reaching a town with a post office.
