1847, 5¢ dark brown (1a), margins to cutting, fine impression, tied by blurry red grid, matching "New-York Oct. 8" c.d.s. on 1850 folded letter headed "U.S. Ship North Carolina", to Philadelphia, letter includes request for Pale Sherry, Madeira and "2 bottles of good brandy" to be sent to the North Carolina which was in port in New York; small cover tear at top and some internal separations, Fine and unusual.
