U.S. Treasurer's free frank registered envelope, created specifically for the redemption of worn or damaged currency, Treasurer's corner card and red "Please Register…Asst. Treasurer U.S." imprint, signed by A.U. Wyman as Asst. Treasurer, franked with a pair of 3¢ Treasury (O74), scissor-separated at bottom, tied by cork cancels, "Wash. D.C./ Registered, Jan 4" (1876) c.d.s., part of registry receipt and intact red wax seal of the Redemption Division of the Treasury on reverse; minor repairs at bottom edge, Very Fine. Includes original "Redemption-Form C" which indicates the presence of $600 in new currency to replace $600 in old currency, which was also returned, but in "mutilated" condition.

The Treasury Department did not have to pay registration fees when replacing old currency. Later in 1876 A.U. Wyman would be appointed U.S. Treasurer.
