Sheridan, Philip Henry (1831-1888), U.S. Civil War Maj. General, succeeded Sherman as Army commander-in-chief wartime civilian pass, signed "PH Sheridan", 1p, 7¾ x 9¾ no place, no date. Letter of introduction for a Dr. Lippitt written by one I.W. Kennedy and addressed on the integral address leaf to "Major Genl Sheridan, Present" Kennedy writes that Lippitt "has several patients sick of Diphtheria written on lines. Can you authorise him to visit them upon his Parole of Honor not to mention any thing he has seen in a military point of view?…". On the address leaf Sheridan has penciled "Gen Pass-PH Sheridan"; light toning and extraneous purple mottling, Fine and extremely rare wartime document.
