Wilmington Del. to Liverpool, England; 5¢ red brown (1), horizontal pair, full margins to clear at top left, striking shade and fine impression, cancelled by bold green grid, matching "Wilmington De. Sep. 29" c.d.s. on 1847 folded letter to Liverpool England, endorsed "via Boston Steamer" at bottom left, perfectly applied "1/-" shilling handstamp at center, colorful contents which nicely mix the personal and business including discussing sea voyage where 10 passengers died, hunting for flying squirrels in Wales, Santa Ana in Mexico, converting a snuff mill to a paper mill, in addition to references to the Baard family, prominent in Delaware politics; manuscript "Ans" as usual with the Shipley correspondence, lettersheet with pre-print paperfold at top causing a light horizontal crease in the adhesives; Very Fine appearance, true Green cancels on the 1847 issue are of the utmost rarity.
