Montreal, Canada to Liverpool, England via Boston and New York; 5¢ red brown (1 var), cracked "T" variety position 69R1, ample to large margins, tied by red grid on 1848 folded letter originating in Montreal and sent to Liverpool, manuscript "per Royal Mail Stmr/ from New York" with red "U.S. Express Boston Mass. Jun. 19" c.d.s. and faint large "5" in a different red, clear black "1/-" shilling handstamp, reverse with Liverpool receiving postmark; Very Fine and rare.
