Montreal, Canada to New York N.Y.; 10¢ black (2), single with three wide margins, close to cutting frameline at bottom, crisp impression, tied to 1851 Kennedy correspondence folded letter datelined "Montreal Feby 3d 1851," red "Montral L.C./FE 3 1851" origin c.d.s., additional red "PAID" handstamp and manuscript "4½ (d)" due rating, stamp tied by red "10" in circle applied upon arrival in New York; light file fold affects stamp, a Fine usage showing the 4d currency "to the lines" rate paid in cash and the U.S. over 300 miles rate paid by the 10¢ stamp, the Alexander census of U.S. 1847 issue covers list only twenty usages from Montreal to the U.S. being franked with 10¢ 1847 stamp.
