"College Hill, Dec 12", red manuscript postmark and "Free, Luther Rice, P.M." free franked folded letter to Philadelphia Pa., the letter contains a printed circular advertising the curriculum of "Columbian College in the District of Columbia" established in 1822; light overall toning, Fine and rare, one of only three recorded examples of the College Hill postmark (all are in this collection). Estimate 200 - 300
The College Hill post office was established on 1 January 1822 with Luther Rice as postmaster closing on 30 May 1827. It was restablished on 13 Sep. 1828 and closed again on 1 Jan. 1842.
